Early in my adult life, I became a mom of three, and a caregiver to my daughter who was born with spina bifida. For thirteen years, my days were built around research, advocacy, and the kind of medical challenges most people never have to learn the language for.

That kind of caregiving is heavy in a way that's hard to explain to someone who hasn't lived it. My husband and I found that the only thing that actually pulled us back from burnout was getting away together. Those trips weren't a luxury, they were what kept our marriage intact through years that could have quietly worn it down. Somewhere on a beach, or on a ship in the middle of the ocean, we'd find each other and ourselves again in a way that could never have happened at home.
